Volkswagen Tiguan Facelift, Well Packaged Practical SUV
German car maker Volkswagen is known for its most popular hatchback Polo, but after Polo it has another most successful car in its lineup which is last but not the least, Volkswagen Tiguan. It is not only the most successful in its line-up but also the first one to break the 6,00,000 unit sales barrier in 2019. From newborn to showstopper, the Tiguan has evolved into a big-time success for Volkswagen around the globe. In India Tiguan makes it debut in 2017, after 3 years VW brought up the second generation Tiguan facelift in India. Like all VW and Skoda cars this new Tiguan is also built on the same MQBAO-IN platform and manufactured in the Skoda’s Aurangabad plant, the Tiguan comes with only one variant which is the Elegance.
Because of the stopped production of Diesel engine by VW in India, under its hood we get VW’s famous 2.0 litre turbocharged stratified injection (TSI) petrol motor which produces 187bhp of power with redlines in between 4200Rpm to 6000Rpm and 320Nm of torque with redlines in between 1500Rpm to 4100Rpm, this TSI motor is paired with a 7 speed dual clutch unit. The result is it goes 0 to 100 KMPH in just 8.5 seconds which is really quick because looking to the weight of the car it was really fast. This same engine unit is also shares with the All Space and because of the added weight the all space will goes 0 to 100KMPH in 9 seconds. So this TSI unit is very refined and comes with great mid range punch, but the low end punch is missing because of absence of diesel motor.
It comes with cylinder deactivation technology which automatically cuts two cylinders when it doesn’t need and uses only two cylinder. Well this 2021 Tiguan will gives you 8 to 12 KMPL average fuel economy, it also comes with start stop system. This German SUV is also capable for off-road and some extreme bad patch on the roads, thanks to the VW’s 4MOTION system which the Tiguan is a fat four wheel drive vehicle.
It also gets 3 terrain (snow, off-road, individual) and 4 driving modes (eco, normal, sport, individual). The length of the Tiguan is 4509 mm, width is 1839 mm and height is 1655 mm. Ground clearance is ample enough where it’s all sedan rivals have that one big issue. Well starting from the front we get chrome plated grill with big VW logo on it, bumper gets some skid plate finish with front parking sensors on it.
The headlight unit is changed now and we get led matrix lights with two projectors and L shape treatment for drl’s. This German giant runs on 18 inch alloy wheels with all wheel disc brakes, the alloy wheel design is not much appealing for me but it looks great on darker colours. Around its big wheel arches we have black body cladding which is running throughout the length of the vehicle, its rectangular windows also gets chrome garnish which looks decently good.
On its massive roof we get a shark fin antenna and a big panoramic sunroof with roof rails as well, tail of the vehicle is very simple but also looks premium. We get led taillights with L shape brake lamps which it matches the headlights very well. The bumper is finished in black colour with chrome plated fake exhaust tip on it, rear windshield gets wiper washer and a defogger also.
In its boot we get massive 615 litres of space which can be increasable by splitting the second row in 40:20:40 ratio. The design of the vehicle is not very rigid and aggressive, but it has it own sweetness and looks premium as well. Inside this giant we get all black interior with beige coloured roof, the dashboard is clean and finished in soft touch material. There is a 8 inch touchscreen infotainment system which gets wireless android auto, apple car play, connected car tech, radio, media, navigation, vehicle settings, off-road settings and many more.
Below the screen we get Taigun and Kushaq style new touch sensible air conditioning controls which is not very intuitive to use but it will grown up with you after some time. The centre console is loaded with lots of switches and cubby holes, in that cubby holes we get wireless charging pad, usb-c type ports and two cup holders as well. In centre console we have lots of vehicles controls like a drive mode selector, electric parking brake and that fat dsg gear liver.
The steering wheel is flat bottom and comes with mounted controls on it which operates that 10.25 inch digital or virtual cockpit which gets trip meters, TPMS, fuel meter, audio controls, navigation and lots of themes as well. Front seats are very comfy and cozy and gives very right position to your body on long routes also, like that in second row we get three height adjustable headrest with centre armrest and AC vents.
Legroom and knee room is not an issue, three people can seat comfortably thanks to that massive width of the vehicle. Headroom is decent enough for tall giraffes also, thanks to that big panoramic sunroof and large windows which sometimes this panoramic sunroof are making the USP of these SUV’s in India. In this German suv we get lots of new age features like heated steering wheel, digital cockpit, 30 colours ambient lighting, touchscreen infotainment system, electronic boot with gesture control, touch sensible air conditioning controls,
panoramic sunroof, automatic headlights, rain sensing wipers, electrically adjustable front seats with memory function, three zone automatic climate control and many more. Like these features it also gets tons of safety tech like 6 airbags, ABS and EBD, traction control, brake assist, electronic stability program, over speed warning, emergency brake flash, speed sensing auto door lock, TPMS (tyre pressure monitoring system), seat belt warning,
