BMW has unveiled the new generation of the M5, a performance-oriented luxury sedan. The latest model features a new plug-in hybrid powertrain, making it the most powerful M5 to date. The global launch of the new BMW M5 is set for November 2024, and it will be accompanied by the introduction of the new BMW M5 Touring. The new BMW M5 is priced at £110,500 (₹1.16 crore) in the UK. Meanwhile, BMW has yet to comment on the India launch of the M5.
BMW M5 Design Highlights –
BMW M5 boast prominent wheel arch and side skirt extension which gives it a sporty sedan look. The sedan even has M5 logo embedded on ‘C’ pillar, similar to what we have seen in newly revealed 5 series LWB version in India. The design is pretty much similar to the regular 5 Series except some attention to detail elements like sportier front bumper, extended side skirts and dual exhaust on both sides which grabs the attention quickly. Overall, the sedan has that sporty and performance oriented look. But the most important thing is what is hiding beneath its engine bay !
BMW M5 Powertrain and Specifications –
The new BMW M5 continues to feature the 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine but now includes an electric motor within the eight-speed automatic transmission. The engine itself generates 585hp, while the electric motor adds another 199hp. Combined, the total system output reaches an impressive 727hp and 1001Nm of torque, delivered to all four wheels through BMW’s M xDrive rear-biased all-wheel-drive system.
Despite the added weight from the motor and battery, the new M5 accelerates from 0-100kph in just 3.5 seconds. The car now weighs around 2.4 tonnes, approximately 500kg heavier than its predecessor. The standard top speed is limited to 250kph, but with the optional M Driver’s Package, this can be increased to 305kph.Â
Interior – BMW M5
Interior of BMW M5 has a unique curved infotainment screen with curved digital instrument cluster which we have seen in the 5 series LWB recently.
But, this M5 has got some special features like M-specific display in infotainment screen, flat bottom M leather steering wheel, Bowers and Wilkins surround sound system, steering wheel heating, special M multifunction seats with electronic adjust and a M display in head up display. Other than this, M5 comes with some standard tech like four zone climate control, seat ventilation with heating and cooling, ambient lighting, panoramic glass roof and more.
