The long-awaited official teaser image of the upcoming Citroen C3-based coupe SUV, the Basalt, has finally going to unveiled after months of speculation and numerous rounds of spy pictures. Tomorrow marks the anticipated reveal of the model, with an expected launch timeline set for the second half of the year 2024. This introduction will mark the fifth addition to the French automaker’s lineup in the Indian market, positioned above the C3 Aircross SUV.
Citroen Basalt Design Language –
Design-wise, the upcoming Basalt will draw inspiration from both the C3 and the C3 Aircross SUV. It will be built on the CMP platform, offering the proportions of a mid-size sedan while benefitting from higher ground clearance characteristic of a coupe SUV-like structure. Continuing the signature aesthetic, the Basalt will showcase a split LED headlamp setup, a broader radiator grille, bumper-mounted fog lamps, and a two-slat grille merging seamlessly into the Citroen logo.
The upcoming Citroen Basalt, based on the C3 Aircross, will sport flap-style door handles, door-mounted ORVMs, chunky wheel arches, a shark-fin antenna, and a sloping roofline. Additionally, it is expected to ride on 17-inch alloy wheels featuring a new design. Transitioning to the rear, the teaser image reveals wraparound squared-off LED taillights complemented by a raised boot lid.
Citroen Basalt Features and Tech –
In terms of features, the French carmaker is enhancing its lineup with more creature comforts. Accordingly, the upcoming Basalt crossover is anticipated to come loaded with features such as a large (10-inch+) infotainment system, wireless smartphone connectivity, electrically adjustable ORVMs, an auto-dimming IRVM, a digital instrument cluster, steering-mounted controls, a wireless charging pad, ventilated front seats, and ambient lighting.
Citroen Basalt Powertrain and Rivals in India –
Under the bonnet, power for the Citroen Basalt is expected to be sourced from the same 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine. This engine is capable of producing 109bhp and 205Nm of peak torque. Regarding the transmission, the model will likely be equipped with a six-speed manual and a torque converter gearbox.
Upon its arrival, the Citroen Basalt will find competition from Tata Curvv, among others. In addition to this, it will compete against established rivals such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, MG Astor, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and the Honda Elevate in the segment.
