Introduction-
It’s been 2 years since Kia Seltos launched in India and now this segment is ruling all the other segments, every company is trying to debut in this crowded segment. We seen Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Hector, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, MG Astor, Tata Harrier, Tata Safari. This tally list is increasing continuously and now India’s biggest car manufacturer makes his debut in this segment which Maruti Suzuki.
Maruti Suzuki launched its new Grand Vitara which is a packaged family suv and will replace S-Cross. In this growing segment, Kia is already offering us Seltos and now this fresher can take a lead, we will find out in today’s comparison which is in between Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Kia Seltos.
Engine and Performance-
Kia Seltos –
Kia given us lots of powertrain options in this Seltos. We have 2 options, first one is 1.5 litre CRDi Diesel engine produces 113bhp of power with redlines at 4000Rpm and 250Nm of torque with redlines at 1500Rpm. This Diesel engine is paired with a 6 speed Torque Converter unit or we can opt for 6 speed manual gearbox. this engine gives claimed 18 KMPL average fuel economy.
Second one is also 1.5 litre but this is a petrol powered and produces 113bhp with redlines at 6300Rpm and 144Nm of torque produces with redlines at 4500Rpm. We will get a option of 6 speed manual , IMT and a CVT gearbox also. The third one is 1.4 litre TGDI petrol motor produces 138bhp of power with redlines at 6000Rpm and 242Nm of torque with redlines at 1500Rpm. We have a option of 6 speed manual or 7 speed DCT gearbox. Kia uses these all engine options in its other lineups as well like Kia Sonet and Kia Carens.
Grand Vitara –
Inside the engine bay of Grand Vitara we have two options. First one is 1.5L NA Petrol engine produces 103hp with redlines at 6000Rpm and 136.8Nm of torque with redlines at 4400Rpm. This is a Maruti’s most commonly used engine unit which we seen in Brezza and XL6. This is mated to a 5 speed manual and 6 speed TC. We can also opt for AWD (All Wheel Drive) which will be available with 5 speed MT.
The second engine unit is 1490cc 3 cylinder petrol motor produces 92.4hp with redlines at 5500Rpm and 122Nm with redlines at 4400 to 4800Rpm. And this 1.5L unit mated to a AC synchronous self charging battery pack. Overall power output is 115hp thanks to the 80.2hp produced from that battery pack. There are 4 modes – EV, Eco, Power, and Normal, with a best-in-class fuel efficiency of 27.97 km/l. This strong hybrid motor mated to a e-CVT gearbox.
Seltos vs Grand Vitara – Strong Hybrid is one of the USP of Grand Vitara, because it’s rivals doesn’t offers any Hybrid tech. Kia is offering us a variety of powertrain options with a turbo engine as well.
But Maruti missed out that turbo engine which is now every car manufacturer is selling. Maruti still believes on its K series engines. But Strong Hybrid makes the job done.

Kia designed this suv specially for Indian road conditions and has a attractive design language which is one of the reason behind massive success of Kia Seltos.
We got honey comb grill at the front with all led headlights and a parking camera nicely camouflaged. It runs on 17 inch alloys and got all wheel disc brakes in higher trims. It has a curvy shoulders with a sharp lines all over the body. Tailgate got led lights and chrome finished Kia logo at the centre.
Design treatment of the Kia Seltos is top notch and has a impressive quality as well. Most of the buyers of Seltos are choosing this suv for its appealing and sporty design which we don’t get in Hyundai Creta. - Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara
After looking to the vehicle we can easily find a different design language which Maruti used in this suv. This Grand Vitara looks very premium has that rigidity as well, thanks to the tall body and bigger dimensions.
Starting from the front we got a new skid plate bumper with a black grill surrounded by chrome and looks like a Mustache. Their are split headlights which nowadays trending, we will see three pointed drls placed above the headlamps. Coming to the side profile it is standing on 17 inch diamond cut alloys with all wheel disc brakes. Tailgate is quite similar to the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, thanks to that connecting taillights treatment which looks fab in this suv.
Their are also reflectors placed lowered half of the tailgate which is a unique bit which attracts more. We will see lots of cuts and sharp edges on the body which is a premium and cool thing in this Grand Vitara. Seltos x Grand Vitara – Its a straight comparison between these two cars and in-terms of design, Kia Seltos has a sporty design with a taller body appearance. Whether Grand Vitara don’t get sporty design.
Interior-
Kia Seltos-
In this suv we got a dual tone interior layout with two screens there which are 10.25 inch and 7.5 inch. First one is touchscreen infotainment system which is easy to handle and works flawlessly well.
We will see some new age bits inside that screen like wireless android auto and apple car play, radio, media, navigation and some more connected features. The second one gets instrument cluster which has 7.5 inch digital screen placed at the centre and shows lots of information. We have a HUD placed above the instrument cluster and have plenty of information. Centre console is packed with some vehicle controls and a drive mode selector. We have seat ventilation controls and a centre armrest also.
Front seats are comfortable enough and gets ventilated seats with powered driver seats also. The dashboard has been crafted really well, gots ambient lighting camouflaged inside the dashboard. The rear seats are ample comfortable for two people and we also have three headrest. Boot space is 433 litres and can be extend by splitting down the second row seats. The cabin is well ventilated and we have a option of sunroof as well which is not a panoramic but big enough to provide sunlight and fresh air.
Maruti Grand Vitara –
We will see dual tone interior in Grand Vitara also with a massively wide and long panoramic sunroof which is first to be offered in any Maruti Suzuki car. Now this humongous unit is kind of USP for Grand Vitara. Dashboard is a work of art and finished in aluminium and chocolate brown colours. We got a 9 inch touchscreen infotainment system vertically placed on the dashboard and has new vehicle connected features as well.
We get lots of cubby holes and a front centre armrest with decent amount of space inside it. The steering wheel is same as the Baleno and will get mounted controls. The instrument cluster is analog unit with a 4 inch digital MID placed centre of the two dials. The strong hybrid trim will get digital instrument cluster which is costlier. Their are plenty of information available in that instrument cluster, we also have heads up display (HUD) placed below the front windshield and between drivers eyesight.
The front seats are big enough and has supreme amount of comfort thanks to the seat ventilation and bigger wheels which toggle all the bumps and bad terrain. Second row is quite spacious, we will see three height adjustable headrest and a centre armrest. The boot space is 430 litres but hybrid will get smaller than 430 litres. Interior and switches quality improved definitely and we can feel that difference. Maruti crafted its cabin very well and feels sleek and luxurious at the same time. And yes big claps for panoramic sunroof also.
Seltos x Grand Vitara – Maruti Suzuki crafted its interior very well and get that premium feel as well but Seltos has futuristic design which can appeal young generations.

Maruti Grand Vitara –
Grand Vitara is coming with slew of new age features and tech like LED projector headlamps, keyless entry, front ventilated seats, heads up display, automatic climate control,
air purifier, connected vehicle features, arkamys sound system, wireless charging pad, 360 degree parking camera, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, driving modes, cruise control, paddle shifters and many more.
Conclusion-
We seen these two new age SUV’s in deep and now the price factor kicked in. Price of Kia Seltos starts from 10.49L and goes till 18.65L (Ex-showroom Delhi). Well the prices of Grand Vitara don’t available right now but the estimated pricing is 10 lakhs to 19 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi).
Both of the suv’s are very much capable for bad roads and has excellent amount of body stability with great road presence as well. But the biggest noticeable difference between these two vehicles is the hybrid tech and AWD option which is available in Grand Vitara and missing in Kia Seltos. Maruti built this new age vehicle with tons of new age tech and a important one Hybrid spec which is a boon to automobile industry in India.
Cause high fuel prices and less developed EV charging infrastructure. But Kia Seltos has more tech and features compared to Grand Vitara. We found Kia Seltos more VFM than Grand Vitara, which is the main reason behind the sells of forty eight thousand Seltos in India.
