Hyundai Tucson – Literally Blow Your Mind

Introduction-

It’s been long time Tucson discontinued from India by Hyundai and now this crossover re enter in the market with a new generation. Hyundai launched its 4th gen Tucson in India with a completely new design language and added bunch of features as well. This is a revolution of Hyundai’s design language and we will get level 2 ADAS in this crossover.

We seen Jeep Compass and C5 by Citroen in this segment. Talking about this segment, no other car manufacturers are offering us ADAS in the suv’s but now Hyundai use this trump card and offered us ADAS. This Tucson built on same Santa-fe platform, it looks very much big in real life. Now Hyundai is offering us Tucson in 7 variants with both AWD and FWD options.

Engine and Performance

Under its hood we will get 2 engine options which is petrol and diesel. First one is 2.0 litre NA petrol engine produces 154bhp of power with redlines at 6200Rpm and 192Nm of torque with redlines at 4500Rpm. This petrol engine mated to a 6 speed torque converter gearbox. The surprise here is, this is not a turbocharged engine but we get naturally aspirated motor.

But Hyundai also offered us a turbocharged engine which is a 2.0 litre turbocharged Diesel engine produces 184bhp of power with redlines at 4000Rpm and 416Nm of torque with redlines at 2000Rpm. This Diesel engine is mated to a 8 speed torque converter gearbox. If we compare both of these engines we can find out that the diesel engine is absolutely mad at the power thanks to the crazy 416Nm of torque. But both the engines are massive gas guzzlers and drinks a lot of fuel , giving us fuel economy between 10 to 15 KMPL. The overall output from this petrol engine is linear and ample enough for highway drives, the Tucson don’t have sporty performance which we are expecting from this suv. But in the end this is not a sport sedan or performance oriented vehicle which will push back you in the seats.

This Hyundai Tucson is all about comfort and convenience with additional of new age tech. Still Hyundai offers us a Diesel engine which has a more power and torque. Low end torque is punchy but we found flat midrange makes it vocal at top end of the rave range. The top end of this crossover is absolutely vocal pulling it madly. But still rest of the time the vehicle is silent and very calm improves its comfort level. The global version gets strong hybrid but in India we don’t have this feature, maybe we can get this in its next generation.

Exterior-

The new Tucson is 4630mm longer, 1865mm wider and 1665mm taller. The vehicle has 2755mm of wheelbase. The ground clearance is ample for a crossover, the design is futuristic and has lots of cuts and sharp lines. The wheelbase is increased by 85mm than 3rd gen.

At the front we got dark chrome parametric grill. The drl is merged in grill which is nice touch. That grill has a sporty look which is very appealing. There is one ADAS panel below that grill. Headlight unit is all led with great looking drl’s. The vehicle is running on 18 inch wheels which are alloys. The alloy wheel design is very aggressive and sporty, I personally like the wheel design. We can identify this crossover with its side profile. The sloping roof line makes this crossover more aero efficient.

Tailgate has different design elements, the Hyundai logo paced on glass where most of the time wiper is placed. But here we got wiper hidden inside the spoiler. The T shaped taillights are running throughout the width of the tailgate and got all led’s. The design is revised and has lots of sharp lines to increase sporty look and aero efficiency. The vehicle is very much big and has appealing treatments all over the body. Personally I liked the front facade of the new Tucson which attracts me more than tailgate.

Interior-

Inside this new gen Tucson we have dual tone interior layout with a panoramic sunroof which is wide enough and opens big as well. The dashboard gets soft touch material with some aluminium inserts running on door pads also. There is a 10.25 inch hyper LED touchscreen infotainment system which is looking superb in the cabin.

That screen has lots of new age features and tech like android and apple auto connectivity, radio, media, vehicle controls, safety settings and Hyundai’s blue link as well. The screen has high resolution and graphics which makes it super smooth to operate. Below this we will find some other controls like air conditioning, driving modes, wireless charging pad, gear selector, ventilated seats and more. The centre console is designed very well and looks more premium as well.

Gear knob is same unit from Creta, there are lots of cubby holes and storage space inside the cabin which is more useful. The steering wheel is manually adjustable and we have mounted controls on it. The instrument cluster is a work of art here, the screen has multiple modes and themes and also fluid to use. We have TPMS, compass, navigation, call alerts and many more in this 10.25 inch digital screen.

I liked the instrument cluster than infotainment screen, Hyundai crafted both of the screens with high resolution and top notch graphics. Front seats are 10 ways electrically adjustable and has heating and cooling function. Even though the co-driver seats gets electrical walk in device which is a great feature. The rear seats has decent amount of space where three people can seat together without any doubt, the seats has 3 ways recline which can increase comfort.

There are AC vents, 3 headrest and a centre armrest as well. The seats has ample amount of headroom and legroom as well. The boot has 450 litres of space which we can easily increase by folding the seats in 40:60 format. The interior layout is completely changed here, we will see lots of electrical switches and controls in this Tucson which is a premium thing. I liked the dashboard personally which is a work of art and Hyundai really designed this good.

Comfort and Convenience-

We will see lots of features in this new gen Tucson like a 10 ways electrically adjustable driver and co-driver seats,

ventilated front seats with heating and cooling function, two zone climate control, powered tailgate, panoramic sunroof, electric walk in mode, led headlights and taillights, wireless charging pad and more.

Safety and Tech-

We will see level 2 ADAS in this Tucson which got forward collision warning, forward collision avoidance assist, pedestrian assist, blind spot monitoring, blind spot collision warning lane keep assist, lane departure warning, driver attention warning, high beam assist,

rear cross traffic collision warning, surround view monitoring, abs and ebd, esc, 6 airbags, vehicle stability program, hill start assist, downhill brake control, TPMS, rain sensing wipers, isofix child seat anchors, front and rear parking sensors and more.

Conclusion-

The price of this new generation Hyundai Tucson starts from 27.69L and goes till 34.54L (Ex-showroom Delhi),

the carmaker priced this vehicle bit high compared to its rivals which are Jeep Compass, Citroen C5 aircross, Jeep Meridian, Volkswagen Tiguan, Skoda Kodiaq, BMW X1, Toyota Fortuner. Hyundai built this vehicle on its new design platform and that’s why we got best in class design with space as well. Even though company claims that Hyundai Tucson has longest wheelbase in its segment compared to rivals.

Kudos to Hyundai for this new age Tucson, they packaged this suv with great amount of power and plenty of new age tech which makes this a great option in this segment. And level 2 ADAS is the cherry on the cake for Tucson, because no other company is offering us ADAS in this segment.
