Jaguar I-Pace, Silently Quick
At this current time fossil fuels are climbing the pricing chart like cats, dogs and monkeys. Taking that trump card lots of brands are moving towards electric and that’s the future we accept it, like that in the luxury EV segment we seen Audi E-tron and Mercedes Benz EQC. But in this segment new EV entered in the chat, that is the new Jaguar I-Pace.
In 2019 this I-Pace is the world car of the year and finally this jag landed in dealerships of India. This Jaguar I-Pace offered in three variants – S, SE and HSE. The I-Pace is 4682mm longer, 2139mm wider and 1566mm taller. Wheelbase is 2990mm and ground clearance is 142mm which can be increased by 56 mm, thanks to that air suspension.
This is the electric so we don’t get engine bay but under it floor pan we get 90kWh lithium ion battery which generates 349bhp of power and 696Nm of colossal torque. This battery distributes the power in two motor which is placed each at front and rear axle, and because of this it can also capable for off-road.
Thanks to that all wheel drive system. That battery which is placed under the floor pan enables 50:50 weight distribution and a low centre of gravity. So we are reviewing the HSE AWD trim, this I-Pace weighs around 2.2 ton, in its weight that lithium ion battery is only 600 kg. Moral of the story is this I-Pace goes 0 to 100 KMPH in just 4.36 seconds which is briskly quick and also impressive.
Because this is a EV it’s performance is very calm but also very vocal, for various driving experience Jaguar also gives us three driving modes (Eco, Comfort, Dynamic). In this driving modes Eco is for city driving where you can save the battery and just cruising in the traffic. Comfort makes the car more silent and decreases the ground clearance as well, but in Dynamic mode this silent EV changes into beast and gives you best performance till the time.
For quick overtakes or on cliffs this I-Pace will never sad you, if you need quick performance just switch it in dynamic mode and this Jaguar I-Pace will vanishes you at no time. Like all EV cars this I-Pace also comes with regenerative braking, in this regenerative braking it converts the kinetic energy into electric energy. For this regeneration we also have lower and higher mode, if we selected high mode it deacelerate quickly and produces electrical energy.
To charge this vehicle we get 2 options, 1) To charge the I-Pace we get regular charger which can be fitted to any regular 15Amp wall socket which charges the vehicle in 48 hours. 2) 7.4kWh AC charger which comes with car which can be fitted into your house or office, this can charge the vehicle 0 to 100% in 14 hours. But if you need more faster chargers we also get 2 DC charges as options.
1) 25kW DC fast charger which takes it 0 to 80% in just 3.5 hours. 2) 50kW DC super fast charger which charges it 0 to 80% in just 90 minutes. Obviously this DC chargers are only available in charging stations but in India there are not as much as stations compared to other European countries. But after some time we get definitely because that’s our future. In full fat 100% charge it will go somewhere around 350Km for sure, Jaguar claimed it 417Km but in real road conditions it will be also go 350+ if you drives it gently and calmly.
So after its performance and technologies in it, lets starts from front, at front we get typical Jaguar curved grill with Jaguar logo which is placed right there on grill. The headlights is all led unit with J shaped dynamic swipe indicators which turns into drl as well.
This headlamps also comes with headlights washer which is a rare feature nowadays. On front bumper we get a black line running throughout the width of car and also led fog lamps on it. Coming to the side it gets sloping roofline with a Jaguar written black body cladding running throughout the
length of vehicle. The door handles pops out when you unlock the vehicle which we have seen in velar also. Jaguar claimed that this types of handles increases its high speed stability. The vehicle runs on 19 inch dual tone alloys with front and rear disc brakes. The tail of this I-Pace is very unique and attracts everyone in its way.
The taillights is again all led’s with dynamic swipe indicators as well. The bumper gets black treatment with some silver finishing right there.
The design of the vehicle is very unique and attractive, like the fact is this I-Pace is best looking car in the Jaguar’s garage. The design of the vehicle is very identical to the coupe but it doesn’t fit in this segment for sure. There are lots of aerodynamic vents which Jaguar says it Active Air Vents like the air passes from the curved grill and
passes that sloping roof which goes straightly from the spoiler. This electric cars are definitely be more aero efficient and this I-Pace is also have it. Inside this Jaguar I-Pace we get dual tone interior with big sunroof which is not openable. Dashboard feels very premium,
thanks to that leather finishing and glossy black treatment. The centre console of the vehicle is loaded with lots of screens and controls, first things first we get a 10 inch pivi pro screen which gets lots of tech like, radio, media, navigation, vehicle data, battery status, vehicle range, vehicle preconditioning,
EV mode, stopwatch, G force meter, low traction launch and many more stuff. This screen is very gimmicky to use or sometimes it can be hard for use. Below this screen we get another 5.5 screen for air conditioning and in this screen there are lots of crazy stuff like seat ventilation, fan speed, temperature and more.
In centre console we get lots of driving controls like drive shifters, driving modes, cup holders and lots of cubby holes. The steering wheel is very nice to hold which gets mounted controls on it , that switches operates that 13.5 inch full digital instrument cluster which gets lots of information in it like,
navigation, media, TPMS, vehicle range and also multiple layouts for that cluster. Front seats are very comfortable like that in second row we get three height adjustable headrest with three seatbelt as well.
The second row gets good amount of headroom and knee room but sometimes that under thighs support is shockingly poor. But overall seat comfort are very good and comfortable.
In the vehicle we get 505 litres of boot space which can be increased by splitting the second row in 40:20:40 ratio. So this Jaguar I-Pace is loaded with tons of features and tech in it like a 825 watts 16 speakers Meridian 3D surround sound system with a subwoofer,
