The announcement has been made official: Kia Carens EV will be launched for the Indian market by 2025. This marks the South Korean automaker’s debut in locally producing electric vehicles, potentially expanding to export these cars from India to various developing markets with both left-hand drive (LHD) and right-hand drive (RHD) configurations.
Additionally, a second electric vehicle is in the pipeline, although details remain undisclosed. Given the popularity of electric compact SUVs, it’s anticipated that the second model will likely fall into this category, catering to consumer preferences for this segment and body style.
Expected Range in Kia Carens EV –
With an anticipated ideal range of approximately 500-600km, the Kia Carens EV is poised to offer impressive mileage. Unlike its ICE counterpart, we anticipate that the EV variant will be available in a limited number of trims, prioritizing higher-spec models with enhanced features. These features are expected to include dual-digital displays, powered front seats with ventilation, level-2 ADAS, and an LED light package. Its standout feature will be its distinction as the first three-row EV, mirroring the configuration options seen in Kia’s current flagship EV, the EV9, which offers both six and seven-seat variants.
Pricing and Rivals of Kia Carens EV –
While the ICE Carens range tops out around Rs. 20 lakh, we project the EV variant to fall within the range of Rs. 22 lakh to 26 lakh, depending on the available mileage. Positioned to compete with models such as the Hyundai Creta EV, Honda Elevate EV, Mahindra XUV.e8, Maruti eVX, and the production-ready version of the Toyota Urban SUV concept, the Kia Carens EV is poised to make a significant impact in the electric vehicle market.
