The upcoming generation of the MG Astor SUV, known as the MG ZS in international markets, is poised for a significant overhaul. Leaked patent images provide a glimpse into the fresh design direction of the new MG Astor. The SUV showcases a reimagined front fascia, featuring a new grille, a more athletic-looking bumper, and updated headlamps. The bonnet of the upcoming Astor appears slightly elongated compared to its predecessor, while the front end adopts a boxier aesthetic.
The grille and bumper design seem to draw inspiration from the MG3 hatchback. Transitioning to the sides, the mid-size SUV showcases new alloy wheels, accompanied by a redefined shoulder line that gracefully curves upwards on the rear door. The glass area appears to have been slightly enlarged.
Notable features include conventional door handles and lane-watch cameras integrated into the ORVMs. At the rear, the wraparound tail lamps sport a fresh design, complemented by redesigned elements such as the tailgate and rear bumper. There’s also speculation about the relocation of the registration plate, potentially moving from the rear bumper to the tailgate.
While there’s no official confirmation from MG Motor regarding the launch timeline for the next-generation Astor, industry insiders anticipate a global unveiling sometime late next year. It’s speculated that the updated SUV will hit the Indian market around 2026. These anticipated updates are also expected to extend to the MG ZS EV, which serves as the fully-electric variant of the Astor. Currently, the Astor is priced in India ranging from Rs 9.98 lakh to Rs 17.90 lakh (ex-showroom). In the Indian market, it competes against models like the Creta, Grand Vitara, Seltos, Elevate, Kushaq, and Taigun.
