Volvo has announced that its South Carolina production facility has started manufacturing the brand’s new electric flagship SUV, the EX90. The Volvo EX90, built on Volvo’s dedicated EV technology platform, offers a massive electric range of up to 600km. In addition to the EX90, Volvo India has confirmed that the EX30, its entry-level electric SUV, will also be available. Currently, Volvo’s electric lineup in India includes the XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge.
The first customer deliveries are set for the second half of this year, with the vehicle being launched in key markets globally, including India. The EX90 comes equipped with a 111kWh battery pack, offering a claimed range of 600km on a single charge. This substantial battery pack powers two electric motors mounted on each axle, generating up to 500bhp and 900Nm of peak torque.
Volvo Cars’ first manufacturing plant in the United States, located just outside Charleston, opened in the summer of 2018. This facility now produces the EX90 and the S60 sedan, has a capacity to build up to 150,000 cars annually.
