Kia Ev6 – Great Dynamics and Superior Interior

Introduction-

Now top three automobile car companies in the India are Maruti Suzuki, Tata and new Kia. Yes this Korean car manufacturer saved its place in top three companies in the India, Kia started its journey in India with the Seltos in 2021. After a great success with Seltos, Kia launched its another compact suv sonet. These two suv takes Kia in the top three car manufacturers in India, recently Kia launched its another suv Carens and premium MPV Carnival. Now Kia India stepped the foot on to the EV segment with its new EV6.

This is a fully electric crossover suv with bigger battery pack. EV6 built on Electric Global Modular Platform (EGMP), this platform is combined with Hyundai and Kia. Hyundai’s global electric vehicle Ioniq is also built on this platform. This new Kia EV6 and Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 shares lots of bit, Ioniq 5 will debut in India coming months. Now only 100 units are allotted for India now but its already got 355 bookings so Kia will increase the count. It will available in Kia’s 15 dealership across 12 cities, vehicle will reach us by CBU route and delivery starts from September 2022. We only have its GT trim in India with a option of AWD and RWD.

Engine and Performance-

This fresh electric Kia gets a 77.4kWh lithium ion battery pack with dual motors in AWD variant which combined produces 325ps of power and 605Nm of torque. There are two motors, each placed at one axle. If we opt for RWD then the power output is 229ps and 350Nm. The result is it goes 0 to 100 in just 5.2 seconds which is bristling quick, thanks to the crazy power output which is coming from 0Rpm.

And that why it absolutely lunges ahead when we flat the gas pedal, performance is amazing and impressive here. It never feels like a EV, this crossover suv is always ready to go ahead. Even in hairpin bends or ghats it never feels like a electric vehicle where the performance is lowered down, this Kia EV6 disappears you in seconds from there, that’s the level of performance it has. Well it has 3 drive modes (Normal, Sport, Eco) this driving modes improves the feedback from the motor. In normal mode we will get ample amount of performance which also try to saves the battery of the car. In sport mode this EV6 will run like it is flying in the sky, this mode will completely change this EV into a mad beast.

Eco mode is to save the battery or improve the driving range of this EV6. This vehicle also got KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System), in this system kinetic energy converts into electrical energy by applying brakes. This technology saves some amount of power from the battery and reuses it, this is a popular system used in an EV. All the premium electric vehicles got this KERS system which is a really cool thing. Now it has 4 modes in this KERS which works flawlessly well. In a full charge Kia claimed that this EV6 will go 528Km (WLTP), but in real world this new EV will go 400Km. This is a impressive range from an EV, kudos to Kia to gave us this splendid range from an EV.

Coming to the charging of this vehicle, 350KW DC Fast Charger will fully charge this EV6 in 18 minutes. This is a great option of charging this electric suv but now in India we rarely find this 350Kw DC fast chargers, we have 35KW DC fast charger maximum which is placed at Tata Power. Still the 50KW DC fast charger will fully juiced up this vehicle in 73 minutes which is also impressive. Now in India we can see some charging ports at the fuel stations or in the parking of our apartments or malls. Electric vehicle charging infrastructure will grow up as the time goes, still we have lots of options available nowadays in the big Metros.

We have to take this Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure as PAN India. Still Tata power and some private EV charging companies make this job easier. Like that this Kia EV6 has impressive performance and splendid battery pack which will take this EV 400+ km easily. Performance from this 75kWh battery pack is absolutely brilliant which never feels like a EV. It is always charged up to disappear you in the seconds.

Exterior-

This Kia EV6 is 4695mm longer, 1890mm wider and 1550mm taller. Well the wheelbase is 2900mm and ground clearance is 178mm. Dimensions of this Kia EV6 defines that this is not compact size suv, this crossover suv is much bigger than we thought. And the wheelbase is also bigger than Tesla cars, which is a cheery on the cake moment here.

Starting from the front we have typical Kia style tiger nose grill with front parking camera placed inside it. The headlights are matrix lights which also have auto adjust for brightness or intensity of light. Drl design is attractive and appealing here, thanks to the all led’s and dynamic swipe indicators. We have black coloured grill lowered down with some ADAS panel at the centre. Vehicle runs on 19 inch dual tone EV wheels, the alloy wheel design is splendid here. We get black coloured pillars with ORVM and roof also. The door handles are concealed here, which improves the aero efficiency of the vehicle.

Cause this is a electric vehicle and all the electric vehicles have to be more aero efficient than regular. The tail of the EV6 is bit inspired from Aston Martin, the design can remind you the same for sure. We have a infinity running led brake light on the tailgate which looks sporty at the night. Taillights are placed bit lowered down, we have all led’s there too. There is also chrome line which is running parallel to that taillight and looks premium as well. Bumper is body painted with some black coloured treatment there which similars with front.

That black colour treatment looks attractive in this paint theme and also feels more sportier. We have a sleek spoiler for better air flow and high mounted stop lamp also. The tailgate design is very unique and looking attractive. The design of this Kia EV6 is very futuristic and new age where we get lots of cuts and sharp edges all over on the body. The arms of this electric suv is curvy and edgy which gives a sharp looks. The design language is bit like a concept car but still it attracts lots of eye sights when it rides on roads. Kia really nailed the ball out of the park with the design language of this Kia EV6. Added chrome treatment and black finishing gives more sporty look to EV6.

Interior-

Inside this fresh Kia EV6 we have all black interior with lots of design elements which gives a premium look to the cabin.

First of all we have a curvy sharp dashboard with some sporty finishing there too, the material used there is soft fabric but lowered half is all about hard plastic. The AC vents are placed middle of the panel which gets infinity vents treatment and ambient lighting running below it. Below that AC vents we have air conditioning controls which is a touch panel. The biggest elephant in the room is that 12.3 inch dual screens which is curved and reminds you BMW iX definitely.

There are two screens, each are 12.3 inch in size and both placed in one panel. The first one is infotainment screen which is a touchscreen unit and gets lots of features inside it like a radio, media, 3D navigation, valet parking mode, EV settings, vehicle settings, battery information, Kia connect and lots of more. The screen is very sleek to use with lots of new age tech loaded in it, we can also decide various themes and colours inside it. Like that the 12.3 inch digital instrument console is fun to use which shows lots of information about vehicle like TPMS, range to empty, navigation, battery information and lot more.

That screen is easy to use which is also sleek unit. Both the screens have great resolution and graphics and works flawlessly well. Centre console is different here, we have a some space between dashboard and centre console, where we can walk through driver and co-driver seat. We already seen this in BMW iX. We got car on/off button on the centre console which is a massive unit connected to the centre armrest. There is also drive selector and a wireless charging pad seating right there with two cup holders which is surrounded by ambient lighting.

This ambient lighting looks stunning at the night, thanks to the 64 colours options for ambient lights. Below its centre armrest we have some space with cooling function also. The steering wheel is changed here, we have new fresh unit which got mounted controls and heating function also. The front seats are comfortable enough for long rides and also adjustable for 10 ways electrically with memory function. Additionally we have another feature called zero gravity seats, where the front seat will be reclined maximum and gives next level comfort.

Coming to the second row, we have 3 adjustable headrest with centre armrest right there. The AC vents are not placed at the centre we got it on the side pillars. The seat height is bit raised here which is because of battery pack. The headroom and knee room is not an issue here but under thighs support is not very much great here. Still three people can seat comfortably without any issues. The second row seats can reclined down in 60:40 ratio which increases the boot space.

Inside its tailgate we have a massive 540 litres of space which can be easily increased by reclining the second row seats. Cabin feels very much fresh and airy, thanks to the electric sunroof and all black cabin. The dashboard layout is inspired from BMW iX and definitely reminds you the same. Still Kia done a fantastic job inside this new EV, we can feel that luxury and premium quality of materials used there. The screens has brilliant graphics and works very well which is a cherry on cake here.

Comfort and Convenience-

In this Kia EV6 we have lots of crazy features like a 14 speaker Meridian sound system, 64 colours ambient lighting, electric sunroof, heated steering wheel, wireless charging pad, automatic climate control,

rain sensing wipers, 360 degree parking camera, 10 way electrically adjustable driver seat with memory function, powered tailgate, touch sensible reading lights and Kia connect with over 60+ car connected features.

Safety and Tech-

This Kia EV6 is loaded in safety also, we got 8 airbags, ABS and EBD, brake assist, traction control, ESP, hill hold control, hill descent control, TPMS, 360 degree parking camera, isofix child seat anchors, high speed door lock and more. We already seen all this features in other cars but in this EV6 we also have ADAS features,

where we have lane departure warning, emergency brake light flash, forward collision warning (FCW), automatic emergency braking (AEB), high beam assist, blind spot detection, lane departure prevention, rear cross traffic alert system. And because of all these safety tech, Kia EV6 scored 5 starts in EURO NCAP. We have a option of 5 colours in this EV6.

  1. Aurora Black Pearl
  2. Yacht Blue
  3. Moonscape
  4. Runway Red
  5. Snow White Pearl

Conclusion-

The price of this Kia EV6 starts from 59.95L to 64.95L (Ex-showroom Delhi), in this price slot this EV6 will compete with BMW i4, Audi Q5, Volvo XC60, Mercedes Benz GLC, BMW X3, Lexus NX, Jeep Wrangler, Mercedes Benz AMG GLA35, MG ZS EV. Well the price model of this new Kia EV6 is bit costlier than its rivals, the biggest reason for this is it is a CBU vehicle. Kia will import only 100 units of this EV6 in India for this year.

Considering the amount of performance and features it has, 100 units is not sufficient for the moment. Kia actually done a fantastic job in this fully equipped electric crossover suv, where we get impressive range, splendid performance, new age tech with safety. If Kia manages to build this vehicle in India, the price of this EV6 will definitely cut down and surely lots of EV buyers can go to buy this EV6
