Maruti Brezza- Knocked the ball out of the park

  • By Sohan Ingole

Introduction-

India has a big automobile industry and the daddy of this market is Maruti Suzuki, now Maruti is biggest car manufacturers and always stay top of the line in sales chart. Cheaper pricing and lots of service dealership are the biggest reason behind the success of Maruti Suzuki in India. In 2016 Maruti launched its first compact suv Vitara Brezza. In 2020 we got its facelift but still it missed out lots of features and that’s why sometimes this Vitara Brezza left the chat in its rivals. But now to correct this Maruti launched its 2nd generation Brezza in India.

Till this day Maruti sold 7.5 Lakhs units of Brezza in India and that’s a really huge number. And now Maruti Suzuki launched its second generation Brezza in India with all new exterior and interior. 2016 model’s name is Vitara Brezza but now the car manufacturers drops the Vitara from its name, so we only left Brezza. This next generation Brezza is made on global C platform, earlier one is built on global tech. The new Brezza is available in 13 variants and 4 trims. Today we have a ZXi Plus AT with dual tone colour paint.

Engine and Performance-

Under its clamshell hood we have 1.5 litre K15 CC naturally aspirated motor which has now dual jet per cylinder for better fuel efficiency. The engine unit is unchanged here and we got the same mild hybrid system which is very much eco friendly and tries to improve fuel economy, this battery charged with regeneration braking automatically and works flawlessly well.

In this mild hybrid system we also got auto engine start stop where when we applies brake it automatically shuts the engine and save fuel. Now most of the cars are coming with this tech which is a great thing considering the fuel prices in India nowadays. Talking about the performance from this 1.5 litre NA unit, it goes 0 to 100 in 12.8 seconds which is not really brisk but makes the job done. It produces 102bhp of power with redlines at 6000Rpm and 136.8Nm of torque with redlines at 3800Rpm, the result is we got linear performance from this naturally aspirated motor.

Earlier model produces more 1.2Nm of torque and 1.8Ps of power than this second generation Brezza. This engine unit is mated to a 6 speed torque converter gearbox, we can also opt for 6 speed manual. The motor is absolutely silent and has that grunt as well. With 6 speed manual gearbox it will go 100 in 3rd gear and has tall gears which spins its rear wheel if we accelerate hard. Car manufacturer claimed that this Brezza will give you 19.8KMPL fuel economy but in real world this 1.5L motor write the fuel efficiency in between 12 to 16 KMPL. If you keep the RPM between 2000 to 3500 you can’t hear the motor or the VFM level is great, you barely can’t hear the engine noise inside the cabin. But if you drive this vehicle with redlines then it will be vocal at the high end of rave range and sometimes we can feel judders very hard.

This 2nd generation Brezza is 40kg weighs up more than earlier model and still the ride and handling remains unchanged. Talking about the suspension, we can hear some amount of spring sounds on bad patches. The suspension is on softer side and that’s why it loves to jump on expansion joints of bridges. As we see this new Brezza has a ample performance with a super calm motor, this is not a enthusiastic car end of the day or we can say, this is not a performance suv. This is a compact suv which can be run on bad patches and also in city drives where it’s great manoeuvrability and compact size helps you in stop go traffic.

Exterior-

In terms of size this new Brezza is same in dimensions, it is 3995mm longer, 1790mm wider and 1685mm taller. The carmaker doesn’t change the measurements and only updated the design. Wheelbase is also similar 2500mm, ground clearance is 190mm which is decently enough for compact suv. Starting from the front we have newly designed face which has chrome plated grill with a shiny Maruti logo placed on the grill.

The headlamp unit is new here and we have led dual projectors with a led drl and also led fog lamps which is a impressive thing here. Coz lots of car manufacturers are removing fog lamps from the vehicle, but Maruti is giving us Led fog lamps. The headlight design is fresh and it looks like a stretched towards outside mirrors which makes the lights more sleek and gets premium look. Bumper gets bull bar treatment with a continuously running black cladding which runs through all car.

But this cladding makes its wheels looks smaller, we get 16 inch dual tone alloys with front disc brakes. That cladding gives a rigid look to the suv and it looks more appealing, but sometimes this vehicle looks under tire. In dual tone paint, we will get black coloured roof and glossy black finished outside mirrors. Coming to the rear, now we have revised tailgate. On that tailgate we will see led brake lamp which is also sleek and looks stunning, thanks to the glossy black finishing used inside it and gives a smoky tail lamp look.

We have boldly written Brezza right there at the centre of the tailgate which is also a great addition. Bumper gets skid plate treatment and parking sensors on it, the tailgate is looks pretty than earlier. Design of this 2nd generation Maruti Suzuki Brezza looks more attractive now than earlier one, previous vehicle doesn’t look premium and somehow it has bulky overlook. But now Maruti really worked on its design language and their work pays off, this Maruti Brezza looks stunning and premium as well, thanks to its dual tone body paint and chrome work done very well. Personally I like the tailgate of the vehicle, where the taillights are far better than earlier one. Still it is not a complete led unit, but it makes the job done.

Interior-

Inside this new Brezza we will see completely changed interior and dashboard layout with lots of new features added. We got dual tone interior with some aluminium inserts over there on door pads and dashboard. The dashboard is very much similar to new Baleno or XL6. Firstly we have massive dash finished in chocolate brown coloured fabric. That aluminium inserts are running continuously over there and also in centre console.

The dashboard design is revised here but looks more appealing now. At the centre of the dash we have a 9 inch touchscreen infotainment system which Maruti named it smart play pro. We see this infotainment unit in Baleno and XL6, inside this 9 inch screen we will see android auto and apple car play, radio, media, navigation, vehicle data, safety tech, camera view and more. Below that screen we will see two AC vents and air conditioning controls. That climate control switches feels more premium than previous one and the quality of the switches are also improved.

Centre console is equipped with wireless charging pad, usb charging ports, gear liver, two cup holders and one centre armrest with small space inside it. The steering wheel is flat bottom and we have mounted controls on it like audio controls, phone controls, cruise control and we also have paddles to shift gear manually. The instrument cluster is basic unit where we will see two rotary dials with a 4 inch digital MID placed at the centre of the dials.

That 4 inch multi information display shows quite lot of information inside it like power and torque meter, avg fuel efficiency, energy flow meter, compass, mild hybrid system and more. This 4 inch unit is very responsive but it’s rivals are offering fully digital instrument cluster nowadays, but still Maruti loves its rotary dials. Above that instrument cluster we will see HUD (heads up display), this is a small screen pops out and there is a projector which projects lots of data on this small screen.

In this screen we can see compass, safety warnings, speedometer, mild hybrid tech and more. It’s a basically Baleno’s unit which shows lots of data and works flawlessly well. It’s a premium feature which we seen in premium luxury cars but now Maruti is offering it in Baleno and Brezza. The front seats are comfortable enough for long rides and Maruti improved the cushioning and side bolstering which is a nice thing. Like that second row is quite spacious, we have two headrest and a centre armrest there. Seats are comfortable but the recline angle is not great here, it could be more reclined. The headroom and knee room is ample here which makes the journey more comfy and cosy.

Two people will be easily fit inside the last row but three people can be a tight fit because end of the day this is a compact suv. Still last row makes the job done in long routes. These seats can be reclined in 60:40 ratio to increase the boot space. This new Brezza gets a 326 litres of boot space which can be easily increased by reclining the second row seats.

We can carry long items in car after reclining the second row seats and that makes ease. The cabin feels very much premium now, thanks to the dual tone interior and ambient lighting. The air flow is also great inside the cabin, now we have electric sunroof in this 2nd generation Brezza. This is a first time in the history of Maruti Suzuki where the car gets a sunroof. Kudos to Maruti Suzuki for interior design of this new Brezza, now the interior is appealing and looks stunning as well.

Comfort and Convenience-

Maruti goes beyond its limits and filled this car with tons of features and tech like, heads up display, 360 degree parking camera, electric sunroof, ambient lighting, arkamys premium speakers sound system.

automatic climate control, front centre armrest, wireless charging pad, automatic headlights, rear seat AC vents and more.

Safety and Tech-

Well in safety row we have 6 airbags, ABS and EBD, brake assist, ESP, hill hold control,

seat belt warning, high speed warning, rear parking sensors and parking camera and much more. This Brezza is available in 9 colour themes.

  1. Sizzling Red
  2. Brave Khaki
  3. Exuberant Blue
  4. Magma Grey
  5. Splendid Silver
  6. Pearl Arctic White
  1. Splendid Silver with Midnight Black Roof
  2. Brave Khaki with Arctic White Roof
  3. Sizzling Red with Midnight Black Roof

Conclusion and Verdict-

The price of 2022 Maruti Suzuki Brezza starts from 7.98L to 13.95L (Ex-showroom Delhi), now this segment is very much crowded with compact suv’s. This new Brezza will rival with Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Mahindra Thar, Toyota Urban Cruiser, Hyundai Creta, Mahindra XUV300, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki S-Cross, Maruti Baleno. Well now Im really impressed by Maruti Suzuki, they packaged this Brezza very well.

I think now Brezza is loaded with tons of features and Maruti knows the consumers choice very well, but still car manufacturer cuts its corner in powertrain. We don’t get turbo engine which it’s rivals are offering with various transmission options as well. The price of the Brezza is bit on higher side, the cost of top end trim with AT transmission is 16.40 L (on-road), after looking its rivals I think Maruti priced this Brezza little more. Still Maruti knocked the ball out of the park with this new Brezza offering us tons of features and that first in the Maruti Suzuki car is Sunroof.
