Maruti Grand Vitara – First Look

  • Written By Sohan Ingole

Introduction-

Sport utility vehicles are consumers choice now whether it’s a compact segment or premium, especially after a massive win of Creta from last two years in market every car manufacturer is trying to debut in this segment. Maruti Suzuki offering us S-Cross in this segment which is kind of crossover hatchback. But lack of tech and poor ground clearance is the main reason behind the low sales of S-cross from last 2 years. By filling that gap Maruti Suzuki unveiled its new suv named Grand Vitara. This is a completely new vehicle by Maruti and maybe it can replace S-Cross.

It built on fresh new platform and has a new design language which we seen in Maruti Suzuki’s global production lots of time. Maruti’s joint company Toyota also unveiled its Urban Cruiser Hyryder which is also built on same platform and uses same tech with a similar engine. Both of the suv’s are like Baleno and Glanza. We will publish a different detailed article on Urban Cruiser Hyryder. Well now this new Maruti will directly compete with Hyundai Creta and others like Kia Seltos, MG Hector, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Mahindra Scorpio-N, Tata Harrier MG Astor. Now it’s kind of jam here in this segment. Maruti only revealed the Grand Vitara in India now, pricing is not announced yet but we can get it in upcoming months.

Engine and Performance-

Now Maruti revealed its two powertrain options, both of them are hybrid but one is strong and left is mild hybrid. First one is 1.5L NA Petrol engine produces 103hp with redlines at 6000Rpm and 136.8Nm of torque with redlines at 4400Rpm.

This is a Maruti’s most commonly used engine unit which we seen in Brezza and XL6. This is mated to a 5 speed manual and 6 speed TC. We can also opt for AWD (All Wheel Drive) which will be available with 5 speed MT. But regular FWD variant will be available with both manual and automatic transmission.

This 1.5L unit got dual jet, dual VVT engine with brake energy regeneration which gives it fuel efficiency between 19 to 21 KMPL, this is claimed numbers by company. It can be change depending on road conditions and way of driving. The second engine unit is 1490cc 3 cylinder petrol motor produces 92.4hp with redlines at 5500Rpm and 122Nm with redlines at 4400 to 4800Rpm.

And this 1.5L unit mated to a AC synchronous self charging battery pack. Overall power output is 115hp thanks to the 80.2hp produced from that battery pack. There are 4 modes – EV, Eco, Power, and Normal, with a best-in-class fuel efficiency of 27.97 km/l. This strong hybrid motor mated to a e-CVT gearbox. After its official launch all powertrain information will be updated, this is a primary and not in deep. Maruti Suzuki claims that this suv will written best fuel efficiency in its segment.

Exterior-

After looking to the vehicle we can easily find a different design language which Maruti used in this suv. This Grand Vitara looks very premium has that rigidity as well, thanks to the tall body and bigger dimensions.

Grand Vitara is 4345mm longer, 1795mm wider and 1645 taller gives it a bulky and huge structure which makes it massive in size and can easily toggle bad roads. Starting from the front we got a new skid plate bumper with a black grill surrounded by chrome and looks like a Mustache. Their are split headlights which nowadays trending, we will see three pointed drls placed above the headlamps.

The headlights are placed middle of the front fascia and gets a all led lights. Their is also a chrome finished Suzuki logo which is placed centre at the grill. Coming to the side profile it is standing on 17 inch diamond cut alloys with all wheel disc brakes. The wheel arches are black finished and gives a rigid appeal to the Grand Vitara, we got a dual tone paint job with lots of chrome and piano black finishing on the vehicle.

Tailgate is quite similar to the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, thanks to that connecting taillights treatment which looks fab in this suv. Their are also reflectors placed lowered half of the tailgate which is a unique bit which attracts more. We will see lots of cuts and sharp edges on the body which is a premium and cool thing in this Grand Vitara. Personally I like the rear part or tailgate of the vehicle, infinity taillights and dual tone coloured bumper looks classy.

Maruti worked on design language of this Grand Vitara and that’s why this Maruti Suzuki looks so attractive and appealing than other companies lineups. Vehicle gives a promising stance which makes this a massive suv and able to drive through bad roads.

Interior-

Inside this new Grand Vitara we will get dual tone interior with a panoramic sunroof which is massively big and also opens quite big.

Brezza is the first Maruti car to get sunroof but Grand Vitara is the first one to get panoramic sunroof in companies lineups. It’s really huge in size and will easily passes good amount of air and sunlight which makes the cabin more airy and roomy. Dashboard is a work of art and finished in aluminium and chocolate brown colours. Most of the part got soft touch fabric but lowered half finished in hard plastic.

Interior layout is completely different here and we have a new 9 inch touchscreen infotainment system . This is a new infotainment system and we will see some new connected features as well. Below that screen their are some air conditioning controls and wireless charging pad with usb’s. We get lots of cubby holes and a front centre armrest with decent amount of space inside it.

The steering wheel is same as the Baleno and will get mounted controls. The instrument cluster is analog unit with a 4 inch digital MID placed centre of the two dials. The strong hybrid trim will get digital instrument cluster which is also first in the Maruti car. Their are plenty of information available in that instrument cluster, we also have heads up display (HUD) placed below the front windshield and between drivers eyesight.

We seen this HUD in Baleno and it shows lots of information and works flawlessly well. We will also find drivetrain modes and AWD controls near the gear lever. The front seats are big enough and has supreme amount of comfort thanks to the seat ventilation and bigger wheels which toggle all the bumps and bad terrain. Like that second row is quite spacious, we will see three height adjustable headrest and a centre armrest.

The space is decent here and makes the job done. The seats can also recline down in 60:40 format to increase its boot space. The boot space is likely 430 litres and it is big enough. But Strong hybrid trim will missed out that big space, thanks to the battery setup. Interior and switches quality improved definitely and we can feel that difference. Maruti crafted its cabin very well and feels sleek and luxurious at the same time. And yes big claps for panoramic sunroof which is one of the USP of Grand Vitara.

Comfort and Convenience-

Grand Vitara will get slew of new age features and tech like LED projector headlamps, keyless entry, front ventilated seats, heads up display, automatic climate control, air purifier, connected vehicle features,

arkamys sound system, wireless charging pad, 360 degree parking camera, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, driving modes, cruise control, paddle shifters and many more.

Safety and Tech-

Maruti loaded this vehicle with safety tech as well like 6 airbags, vehicle stability control, hill hold control,

hill descent control, rear parking sensors, 360 degree parking camera, isofix child seat anchors, ABS, front and rear disc brakes and more.

Grand Vitara will be available in 9 colours options-
1. Celestial Blue
2. Arctic White
3. Chestnut Brown
4. Grandeur Grey

1. Opulent Red
2. Splendid Silver
3. Splendid Silver with Midnight Black Roof
4. Opulent Red with Midnight Black Roof
5. Arctic White with Midnight Black Roof

Verdict / Conclusion-

Now pricing of Maruti Grand Vitara is not available but we predict it between 10 to 17 lakhs for mild hybrid and 18 to 20 lakhs for strong hybrid ( All Prices are Ex-showroom ).
This Grand Vitara will placed after Brezza and directly compete with Hyundai Creta and other suv’s like Kia Seltos, MG Hector, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Mahindra Scorpio-N, Tata Harrier MG Astor.

Maruti Suzuki will launch this new suv in coming months and focusing on festive season. If Maruti priced this vehicle aggressively, Grand Vitara has that courage or packaging which Indian Consumers want. And Maruti Suzuki is a reliable brand mainly selling its most of the lineups for budget segment and now this brand debut in premium segment with its Grand Vitara
