Skoda Slavia – Comfy Spacious Sedan and got Punchy Engine

  • By Sohan Ingole

Introduction-

In this crazy suv buzz Skoda finally raised the curtains of its all new sedan Slavia, this new sedan replaces the rapid and after winning the game, successful rider Rapid left the chat. The Skoda Slavia built on the most popular Skoda VW platform which is the MQBA0 IN, likely all the new generations of VW and Skoda is made on this platform. As the Slavia starts to reach the dealerships it replaces the rapid. Earlier Rapid directly competes with the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, but sometimes because of the lack of features and small dimensions sometimes the Rapid left the chat.

But to complete this revenge Skoda finally launched this new Slavia by replacing the rapid and to undercut its rivals. Comparing Slavia and Rapid, Slavia is bigger than the rapid in all dimensions and in its rivals Slavia has biggest wheelbase in its segment and bigger than the city by 1mm. Skoda Slavia is offered in 3 variants same as like kushaq- Active, Ambition and style.

Engine and performance-

This 2022 Skoda Slavia comes with two TSI engine options, The 1.0-litre, three-cylinder TSI engine generates 114bhp and 175Nm of torque. This engine is available in six-speed manual transmission and six-speed automatic transmission options.

Alternatively, customers can also opt for the 1.5-litre, four-cylinder TSI engine from the EVO generation with active cylinder technology. This engine produces 148bhp and 250Nm of peak torque. This engine is available in both the six-speed manual and seven-speed DSG options. The active cylinder technology automatically shuts down two cylinders when the engine load is low, thereby reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. We are reviewing the style variant with 1.0 litre TSI turbo motor produces 115 bhp of power with redlines at between 5000Rpm to 5500Rpm and 178Nm of torque with redlines at between 1750Rpm to 4000Rpm. This TSI motor is mated to a 6 speed Torque converter gearbox, talking about the performance. This turbo motor is very calm and refined, in spite of having 3 cylinders it’s a very silent car and don’t realise that the car is switched on for a moment.

But this calm motor also has that grunt to pull hard sometimes, in automatic trim it is very silent in low revs but as the redlines goes above 5000Rpm it roars to life and completely vocal in the top end of the rave range. It goes 0 to 100 kmph in the time period of 12.5 seconds. Talking about the gearbox it is decently quick in terms of shift but not the fastest one that everyone wants, it makes the job done in city and on big tarmacs as well where we want fastest shifts to take down big trailers and lorries. The low end punch doesn’t exist here, but high end punch of the rave range has that kick which we want from a motor. This 1.0 litre engine is not fastest engine in its lineup, the 1.5 litre TSI is the quickest one and the most powerful sedan in its segment. We will publish a separate article on the 1.5 litre motor as soon as possible. We also have manual mode in this gearbox where we can shifts the gears by the paddles or triptronic function. The ride quality is very impressive and best in its class, suspension is very soft that inspite of having smaller wheels it absorbs all bad patches and potholes into it. Skoda also claimed that Slavia gets best and biggest ground clearance in the segment and will beat the suv also. Well this 1.0 litre motor is not the drivers delight it takes its own sweet time to take pace, it is convenient and useful in cities where we met crazy traffic and jams which lends us to use automatic cars.

Exterior-

The Slavia is 4541mm longer, 1752mm wider and 1507mm taller. It’s wheelbase is class leading 2651mm and ground clearance is also impressively 180mm.

The ground clearance and wheelbase of the Slavia is biggest in its segment, where in terms of dimensions it’s rivals have mostly similar lengths. Starting from the front we have Kushaq inspired typical black coloured Skoda grill which is surrounded by the chrome. The bumper gets some black treatment to reduce the visual bulk which is also carried away around the fog lamps with some chrome treatment.

Headlamps is the combination setup of led and halogen, we get led drl and led projector but the indicator and fog lamp is not led it’s a halogen unit. The lights are beautiful which gets some jewel treatment with an L shaped led drl. The side profile gets chrome door handles, chrome line running throughout the window line and Skoda written on fenders also. Looking from the side it looks very sharp and clean, the stance of the vehicle is completely different in its rivals.

The vehicle is running on 16 inch machined cut alloys, alloy wheels are not very adventurous or enthusiastic. They looks very commercial and practical for me, well it will grow on you as the time. The mirrors are internally adjustable with retractable function and also gets side indicators on it. Coming to the rear part we have led brake lamps with halogen indicators and reverse lamp. On its tailgate we got chrome finished Skoda written boldly and always attracts lots of people on the road.

The taillights can sometimes reminds you Volvo car, thanks to the C shaped brake lights which looks absolutely rad in night. The bumper is body coloured with a chrome line running throughout the width of vehicle, on its wide bumper we have three parking sensors and a parking camera on it. The design of the vehicle shows the footprints of the Skoda design language, thanks to that lots of cuts and crises on exterior body. Skoda crafted this sedan very well and also think about Indian road conditions by giving us a proper ground clearance. Skoda used chrome and piano black finishing very tastefully and the results is this budget C-segment sedan looks very premium and attractive.

Interior-

This Slavia have some big dimensions in its segment, like that inside this sedan we got decently big space and even feels very premium as well. Firstly we got dual tone finishing in the interior with a decent use of gloss black finish. Well the dashboard design is completely new, we got a very clean and sharp looking dash with some utility space on it.

Biggest attention to detail in the cabin is that rose gold strip which is running throughout the dashboard and looking very premium and classy. We got four AC vents at front where two at the middle and two at the both ends of dashboard. Skoda really worked on the interior, mainly focusing on dashboard where 75% of the car buyers looked at the dashboard design first.

Well we got 10 inch touchscreen infotainment system which is basically same as the kushaq’s unit and we have same tech inside it like android auto and apple car play, media, radio, telephone, navigation, vehicle settings, connected car tech and media apps like Gana and like stuff. It’s a sleek unit where we get a lots of information about the vehicle and slew of other things as well. In the Kushaq some buyers phased lagging or some technical issues in this screen but in Slavia, Skoda really works on it and tried to solve the issues.

Below this, air conditioning controls are placed which is a touch panel and same as the new generation Skoda VW’s cars. In the centre console we have some USB’s and a wireless charging pad with some other vehicle controls like seat ventilation, parking sensors and more. The availability of storage space in the cabin is decently enough for daily use thanks to the massive bottle holders and huge space in the centre armrest.

Steering wheel is again taken from Kushaq and Kodiaq where we got two spoke unit with a significant use of chrome and gloss black finish there too. Well above that we got 8 inch digital instrument cluster where we got lots of information about the vehicle like TPMS, speedometer, battery temperature, range to empty and some themes as well.

It’s not a full digital, we got a part digital unit but still it makes the job done. But as this is a fresh unit lots of customers are attracting toward it and Skoda really improves its quality and practicality of this cluster. The front seats feels very premium and comfy thanks to the ventilation function and ample amount of headroom and legroom. In that regards in the second row we got three height adjustable headrest with a centre armrest as well.

Practically three people can seat in comfortably with good amount headroom and legroom for all the passengers. We have two AC vents at the second row with two magazines holders and phone holders as well. Coming to its massive boot where we are getting 521 litres of space which is biggest in its segment and attracts customers as well.

Skoda make a decent job inside this sedan it really helps it in between his rivals, they packaged it really well and tried to lead its segment with its interior space.

Comfort and convenience-

In this sedan we are getting tons of features and tech like a ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, electric sunroof, keyless entry, auto dimming irvm, automatic air conditioning, rain sensing wipers,

digital instrument cluster, voice commands, shark fin antenna, led drl, led brake lamps, rear AC vents, Skoda sound system, connected car feature and more.

Safety and tech-

Skoda is really making its cars beyond the way and focusing more on safety in Slavia we got 6 airbags, ABS and EBD, electronic stability program, traction control, isofix child seat anchors,

TPMS, seat belt warning, over speed warning, rear parking camera with sensors and more.
This Skoda Slavia is available in 5 colour options.

  1. Crystal Blue
  2. Carbon Steel
  3. Brilliant Silver
  4. Tornado Red
  5. Candy White

Conclusion-

Well the price of Skoda Slavia starts from 10.69L to 17.79L (Ex-showroom Delhi). The price of style 1.0 AT trim is 15.39L (Ex-showroom). In this price segment we have lots of brand and segment available and now it’s a bit crazy jam here, this Slavia competes with Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, MG Astor, Mahindra Thar, Tata Harrier, MG Hector, Kia Seltos. This budget price segment is loaded crazily with slew of brands available but this Skoda’s Slavia really has that grunt and packaging which may gives a great position to this sedan in this segment.

Skoda really made a great job by offering us a well packaged and punchy sedan with a suv style ground clearance and better ride, even though on the bad roads this sedan takes all inside in it and goes flawlessly well. A big kudos to Skoda, this sedan will definitely beats his SUV rivals and will wish to sold in great numbers.
