Hyundai Venue – Tech Loaded SUV with Superb Packaging

  • By Sohan Ingole

Introduction-

Mid size SUV’s are now consumers choice nowadays, most of the times new car buyers are going for under 4 meter suv’s segment. Which are feature loaded, easy to drive, good amount of space and ample amount of power. Considering consumers need Hyundai launched its updated Venue with some cosmetic changes in and out.

Vehicle is still same in the dimensions, where Hyundai only added some extra detailing and chrome work in the vehicle. Hyundai launched this midsized suv in India in 2019, from that this Venue always love to stick top of the sales chart. Hyundai never faced low sales to this sub 4 meter suv which is loaded with lots of tech and also have turbo engines.

Engine and Performance-

This 2022 Venue is available across 16 variants and 6 trims, 3 engine and 4 transmission options are the main reason for 16 variants of this Venue. In this facelift we have 3 engines options- 1.2L NA Kappa petrol motor produces 82bhp and 113Nm, 1.5L U2 CRDi diesel motor produces 99bhp and 240Nm and last one is the 1.0L kappa Turbo GDi petrol motor produces 118bhp and 172Nm.

The 1.2L and 1.0L units got 3 cylinder and rest 1.5L get 4 cylinders. We are reviewing the SX(O) variant which gets 1.0L kappa Turbo GDi petrol motor under its hood. This 1.0L motor produces 118bhp of power with redlines at 5800Rpm and 172Nm of torque with redlines at 1800Rpm. This turbo unit got a option of 6 speed IMT (intelligent manual transmission) and a 7 speed DCT (dual clutch transmission). Our variant have 7 speed DCT which shifts quite fast and works flawlessly well, this DCT unit is very smooth and we don’t recognise when the shift is happened.

Performance from this 1 litre unit is ample, we have a strong midrange punch in its raves range. But that initial turbo lack kicked in and that’s why low end torque is missing here. We can’t get that punchy start from this turbo motor. Still it is convenient to use in city drives where most of the time we are facing jams on roads, this vehicle is easy to handle and manoeuvrability is outstanding. New drivers can easily drive this suv. We also have drive modes in this facelift but they are only available in Turbo variants. Hyundai claimed that we will get 18 kmpl fuel economy, but in real world this Venue will give us fuel efficiency between 9 to 14 kmpl. Cause this is the petrol motor, it loves to drink fuel. Still this 1.0L Turbo Kappa motor is Hyundai’s most famous engine unit till the date and lots of Hyundai and Kia cars have this under its engine bay.

We have three driving modes offered in this turbo variant – Eco, Normal and Sport. Eco mode is use to extract best fuel economy from this motor, normal is blend of eco and sport where we have ample amount of power with good fuel economy also. Sport mode defines its structure like its name, we get best performance from this 1.0 litre turbo motor. And to improve the performance we also have shifters mounted to steering wheel which is restricted to turbo variant again. But still the result we want from this Turbo motor is missing sadly end of the day. This engine unit is not enthusiastic as is have to be, we have a calm silent kappa motor which can be used in day today life.

Exterior-

This updated Venue is more or less the same than older version in dimensions, this suv is under 4 meter and 3995mm longer, 1770mm wider and 1617mm taller. Wheelbase is 2500mm and ground clearance is 195mm. In this under 4 meter suv segment, most of the cars have similar dimensions. Coming to this Venue facelift, we have new grill upfront. Now we got dark chrome grill which is now more bigger than earlier.

The headlight unit is led projector and also have led drl which is typical square in shape. Now Hyundai has removed the fog lamps from this updated Venue, nowadays lots of carmaker’s are removing fog lamps from the cars, cause that led projectors are more enough. Bumper design is revised now and we also get indicators placed above the headlights. The front facade of this suv is literally lifted and looks attractive more than earlier.

The vehicle is running on 16 inch diamond cut alloys which is also new, this updated alloys look better than earlier and personally I like the design. Vehicle gets chrome door handle and black body cladding which gives a hardcore suv appeal. Silver roof rails and shark fin antenna gives a sharp look to the vehicle, roof rails are looks useful than earlier. Still side profile of this Venue looks same as before, now only alloys are updated and rest of the things remains unchanged.

Coming to the rear, we have infinity running led brake lamp and halogen reverse lights with side indicators also. Lowered half of the tailgate is new here, we have some black treatment over there which is running throughout the width of the suv. Hyundai tried to match the front and rear bumper of the vehicle with that black strip which is running continuously on the bumper. Exterior design of this compact suv is more or less the same than the earlier version, still extra added chrome work will definitely differentiate between those two cars.

Personally I like the front part of the vehicle where that new massive chrome grill looks stunning and appealing than earlier, most of the upcoming Hyundai cars will get this massive chrome grill. But now this updated Venue looks more boxier than earlier suv, thanks to the new alloys and roof rails.

Interior-

Getting inside this new Venue, we will see dual tone interior layout with black coloured dashboard which remains unchanged. On its clean dash we have a 8 inch touchscreen infotainment system placed very cleanly between two rectangular AC vents. Inside the cabin we have hard plastic most of the places and lowered half also gets scratchy one, but looking to the price model and it’s rivals are also getting hard plastic.

That 8 inch infotainment system is now updated and we have lots of tech inside it like ambient sounds of nature, 3D navigation, vehicle safety features, radio, media, 10 regional languages, car settings, wireless android auto and apple car play connectivity, voice commands, 60+ features in blue link connectivity, Alexa and Google Home compatibility and many more. Below this we will see three dials which are used to control climate, middle one is digital dial and shows lots of information as well.

Centre console is packed with wireless charging pad, one gear liver, drive mode selector and two cup holders connecting a front centre armrest which is also slide able unit. That drive mode selector is placed right near the cup holders. The steering wheel is now updated and we have Creta’s D-Cut dynamic steering wheel which looks value for money now. This steering wheel got mounted controls, paddle shifters and also adjustable.

The steering mounted controls operate that new digital instrument cluster with MID, this digital instrument cluster unit is very much similar to Kia Carens and looks stunning as well. It changes its theme according to the drive mode. That MID is very informative and shows lots of vehicle data like trip meter, fuel economy, TPMS speed alert and many more.

The front seats are same as before in comfort but now the driver seat is 4 way powered adjust which is a cool thing and first in the segment feature. Coming to the rear row, we have two height adjustable headrest with one centre armrest which gets two cup holders as well. The seats can be reclined in 2 ways which is a really impressive thing and will be used in long routes. We got magazine holder, AC vents and two USB ports below the air purifier for rear seats.

The headroom is great here but the legroom and under thighs support is ample but still make the job done for most of the time. Interior is very much similar to earlier trim, there are some main changes here which are, new digital instrument cluster, powered driver seat, drive mode selector, new infotainment system. Hyundai made some minor changes in interior and all looks great for me.

Cabin is very much airy and feels roomy, thanks to the sunroof and big rectangular windows. The rear seats can be reclined down in 60:40 format and will increase the boot space of the vehicle. This Venue get 350 litres of boot space and will be extended 500+ litres after reclining down second row seats.

Comfort and Convenience-

In this 2022 Hyundai Venue we will see lots of features and new age tech like 4 way powered driver seat, air purifier, digital instrument cluster, ambient lighting, electric sunroof,

wireless charging pad, cooled glove box, smart key, start engine stop button, Blue Link with 60+ features, led headlights, puddle lamp, rear AC vents and many other things.

Safety and Tech-

Hyundai is now India’s 2nd largest car manufacturers in India and they are always trying to ensure passengers safety, in this Venue we got 6 airbags, ABS, EBD, Brake assist,

traction control, ESP, hill hold control, rear parking sensors and parking camera, TPMS, speed sensing auto door lock, speed alert, isofix child seat anchors and more. Now we have 7 colour options in this updated Venue which are,

  1. Typhoon Silver
  2. Titan Grey
  3. Denim Blue
  4. Polar White
  1. Phantom Black
  2. Fiery Red
  3. Fiery Red with Phantom Black

Conclusion/Verdict-

Now the 2022 Hyundai Venue price starts from 7.53L to 12.47L (Ex-showroom Delhi), now in this budget price segment this Venue facelift will compete with Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV300, Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Creta, Toyota urban cruiser, Hyundai i20, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Citroen C3, Tata Punch.

This is a crowded segment nowadays with lots of options available across many segment like entry level compact sedan, mid size hatchback and compact suv’s. Earlier Venue missed lots of bits in features and tech. Because of the tons of features and new age tech, Kia Sonet is taking lead in the sales chart. But now Hyundai updated its Venue and fill all the gaps. Easy to drive structure, great manoeuvrability and new age tech will definitely sale this Hyundai Venue in great numbers and it has that courage.
