Introduction-
Now Indian Automobile sector is moving towards EV’s and government announced that India will go all EV’s till 2028, that’s a big thing. But in this electric segment Tata launched its first all electric vehicle Nexon EV in 2020 which is a electric version of its ICE powered version.
But this Nexon EV really bangs the market and soon Tata launched its another EV which is Tigor. These both cars perform very well in this market and using that trump card Tata launched the facelift of Nexon EV with bigger battery setup and more features. Tata named it Max where it is now Tata Nexon EV Max, we can get its pro version in the future. In this update we get improved ride quality, bigger battery setup, more features and long battery range.
Battery and Performance-
Pre facelift model comes with a 30kWh battery pack with 320Km of claimed battery range, but sometimes this is not sufficient for Indian roads. So now this updated Nexon EV Max gets a 40.5kWh lithium ion battery pack which is now increased by 10.5kWh. Overall power output is 143Hp and 250Nm which is increased by 14Hp and 5Nm, these all power is coming from 0RPM thanks to the electric battery.
The result is it goes 0 to 100 in under 9 seconds which is briskly quick and very impressive for this segment, earlier model will go 0 to 100 in under 10 seconds. Tata tries to improve the range of this battery either the performance, still this is a lighting quick EV which goes 100+ in no time. In hairpin bends it will never feel like EV, it’s quick performance will charged up your mood. If we want to make quick overtake, just flex your right foot and you will disappear from there, that’s the level of torque it produces. And to improve the performance Tata also gave us 3 drive modes which are City mode, Eco mode and Sports mode.
City mode is for city driving where we get better range and ample amount of power, eco mode is only for taking best range from this EV. Sports mode turns this electric vehicle into a beast which gives us best performance and speed. This updated model now gets regeneration braking or KERS (kinetic energy regeneration system), regeneration system is available in almost every premium electrical vehicle. In this system electric energy produces by applying brakes or kinetic energy is converted into electrical energy and save some amount of energy to improve the driving range of the vehicle.
This Nexon EV Max is available in two variants- XZ Plus, XZ Plus Lux. Now we have two chargers in these two variants, first one is 3.3 kWH AC fast charger and second one is 7.2kWh AC super fast charger. We can choose anyone in between these two, that 3.3kWh charger will charge the vehicle 0 to 80% in 12 to 16hrs. But 7.2kWh charger will charge the vehicle 0 to 80% in 5 to 7hrs. Tata claimed that 50kWh DC fast charger will fully charge this vehicle in 50 minutes, this is a really impressive timing but now in India we have maximum 15kWh DC fast charger which is available in Tata Power Charging Stations.
This 15kWh DC fast charger will charge the vehicle in 2 to 4hrs and still this is a convenient option to charge the vehicle, considering the amount of charging stations available in India right now. Now Tata claims that in a full charge it will go 437km** but in real world it will go near 350km easily. This is a really impressive range with lots of charging options.
Now Tata is giving us 8 years and 1,60,000km of warranty on the battery pack and 3 year 1,25,000Km of warranty on the car. The battery setup is IP67 rated and also waterproof, dust proof. This Tata Nexon EV Max is packed with good battery setup and now gets KERS also, the power output is also ample enough for city drives and will make the job done on highway runs.
Exterior-
This Tata Nexon EV Max is 3993mm longer, 1811mm wider and 1616mm taller. The wheelbase is 2498mm and ground clearance is also decent for bad roads, end of the day this is a sub 4meter compact suv. In this electric version ground clearance is reduced by 10mm for better air flow and driving dynamics.
Starting from the front we get glossy black bar grill with tri arrow pattern on it which is available in all next generation Tata cars. That humanity line runs through all the grill and joints the headlights as well, grill area is reduced at the front compared to other vehicles. We have tri arrow grill lowers half on the front with that blue tinge effects to get that typical electric feel. Headlight unit is same projector unit with led drl and fog lamps, we have that blue tinge around the fog lamps as well.
The vehicle is running on 16 inch dual tone alloys with front and rear disc brakes, tha alloy wheels is very much same as earlier model but still it looks amazing. We get black body cladding around the wheel arches and running throughout the length of the vehicle, the side moulds also gets that tri arrow pattern. The humanity line continues around the window line and tries to match with front body. All paint options are dual tone and we get grey coloured roof with shark fin antenna and a sunroof as well.
The tailgate is very much similar to the pre facelift model, we get humanity line running throughout the width of the tailgate and Nexon written below the Tata logo. The tail lamps are still part led unit where we get all led units in its rivals and looks like aftermarket. The bumper is finished in black with that tri arrow pattern there too. Overall design is same as early before, still Tata adds some extra elements to differentiate between both of them. Dual tone paint job looks super amazing and that humanity line treatment will attract your eyesight definitely. But still Tata crafted this Nexon EV Max very cleverly and manages to continue its typical design style with its tri arrow pattern and humanity line.
Interior-
Coming to the inside this Tata Nexon EV Max we have dual tone paint interior with that tri arrow pattern on dashboard also. Dashboard doesn’t change as much we get same 7 inch touchscreen infotainment system with lots of tech inside it like android auto and apple car, air conditioning controls, vehicle settings, radio, media, navigation, apps, battery information, charging stations locater and many more.
Below that infotainment screen we have two AC vents with Nexon written middle of the dashboard with that blue tinge effect which is carried in the interior as well. The centre console is loaded with lots of switches and controls like air conditioning controls, wireless charging pad, KERS settings, electric parking brake and centre armrest with some amount of storage space inside it.
The biggest attention to detail is that digital driving mode selector which is added now and older one is removed now. That dial gets chrome nulled finishing with digital screen on the top which shows the driving mode with lots of effects and graphics. That digital drive mode selector improves overall visual appeal of the car and feels good as well. Tata tried to make this Nexon EV Max more premium and classy by adding this all panel in the centre which is very similar to Land Rover cars.
In earlier model we have physical handbrake which is now gone and electric parking brake is added for better convenience. Steering wheel is the same Altroz unit with mounted controls on it which used to operate voice commands, audio controls, cruise control and that 5 inch digital instrument cluster. This is a same screen which we seen in Harrier and Safari which is sleek and informative unit and gives lots of data like TPMS, battery data, safety sensors details, range to charge, power output and much more.
Front seats are comfortable like Nexon and gives best legroom and headroom without any issues, thanks to the electric sunroof and ventilated front seats. Like that in second row we have two height adjustable headrest with an armrest in the centre.
The seats are comfy and well cushioned, in addition we have AC vents, reading lights, magazine holders and lot more. Still cabin feels airy and roomy which creates a great atmosphere inside it, thanks to the massive windows and sunroof for a well air flow and sunlight.
The boot space is 350 litres which can be expand by splitting the second row seats in 60:40 ratio. Now this Max model is available in 3 colour scheme.
Comfort and Convenience-
This updated Nexon EV Max variant is loaded with new age tech like 8 speakers Harmon Kardon sound system, wireless charging pad, cooled glove box, digital instrument cluster, electric sunroof,
rear seat AC vents, automatic headlights, rain sensing wipers, voice commands, electric parking brake, front ventilated seats and much more.
Safety and Tech-
Tata is now known for its build quality and safety assurance of cars, like in this Tata Nexon EV Max we have 2 airbags, ABS and EBD, traction control, electronic stability program, brake assist,
hill descent controls, TPMS, seat belt warning, high speed door lock, tyre inflammation kit and more. Because of all this stuff Tata Nexon EV scored 5 stars in Global NCAP. Now this EV is available in 3 colour options which all are dual tone.
- Daytona Grey
- Intensi Teal
- Pristine White
Conclusion-
Now this Tata Nexon EV Max costs from 17.74L and goes till 19.24L (Ex-showroom), in this segment Nexon EV competes with MG ZS EV, Tata Tigor EV, Honda City e:HEV, Kia ev6 and in this price segment it will rival with Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Hector, Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV700, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Slavia, Volkswagen Virtus, Mahindra Thar.
So this Tata Nexon EV Max is really capable electric vehicle and most value for money vehicle in the market now, Tata tried very well to pissed off that range and charging anxiety from the customers with this Nexon EV Max. And end of the day this is really packaged car with lots of new age tech and tons of safety features as well. This Tata Nexon EV Max will surely grow on sales chart and kudos to Tata to build this very attractive and appealing electric vehicle.
