  • By Sohan Ingole

Introduction

Nowadays we saw a lot of cars with tinted glass on its roof which can be openable and in India most of the time people take out their heads from that small window and enjoy the breeze. Well that glass called Sunroof which is supposed to be used for a better air flow and a good natural source of light in the cabin but in India we used this in different way! This is a premium feature which is only offered in luxurious sedans and SUV’s but now consumers are expecting this Sunroof in lower segment.

And that’s why now we will easily find sunroof in a car with a starting budget of 10 lakhs.
Born of this jazzy feature in was the Nash car in 1937. It had a metal panel which capable of sliding out, bringing back the charm of open cabins. This concept was introduced in early 20th century when horse carriage inspired car bodies were evolving to better suit the driver and passengers in a high-speed motor. Coup de Ville, a car body type from the vintage era had a fixed roof for the rear passengers and the driver compartment had an open cabin.

These open cabins had part-time roofs which used to slide on to protect the driver on days of poor weather. Well after these, the opening roof thing changed into a prestigious feature. Luxurious car manufacturers like Bentley and Rolls Royce started giving sunroof and opening roofs which lends their customers to enjoy fresh air from nature. And from early 20’s this feature is expected in every premium cars, and that’s why 98% cars from this premium segment got sunroof or convertible roof. Verdict-

There are lots of cars available with sunroof right now, but we only explained 10 cars. Hyundai Verna, Mahindra XUV300, Volkswagen Taigun, Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Harrier, Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV700, Mahindra Scorpio-N and more 142 Cars which is coming with sunroof. Lots of people fits aftermarket sunroof in their cars which is a bit risky or it can make a huge loss of car owners.

Hyundai Creta Panoramic Sunroof

Aftermarket sunroof has a big marketplace in Delhi like cities, we urge everyone to please avoid that aftermarket sunroof thingy. Now new car buyers with a budget of 10 lakhs above is expecting for sunroof in their cars. This feature is not useful directly or doesn’t improve performance of cars, this is a all about luxury and thing of joy or enjoyment. Car manufacturers knows the mad craze of sunroof in younger generation specially and that’s why they costs these variants more costlier than regular one. We found this feature Gimmicky and doesn’t make any sense but still it has a separate fan base in youngsters specially.
